Ronnie O'Sullivan made the highest break ever recorded in professional snooker, a 153, during his World Open quarter-final against Ryan Day in Yushan, China, in 2026. A normal maximum break is 147, but Day fouled at the start of the frame and left O'Sullivan a free ball. Ronnie nominated the green as an extra red, potted it for 1 point, then potted a black for 7 points before beginning a remarkable clearance of 145. The break surpassed the previous professional record of 148, set by Jamie Burnett during UK Championship qualifying in 2004. It is now officially the highest break ever made in professional snooker competition.
