Ali Carter made the first maximum break of his professional career during his quarter-final against Peter Ebdon at the 2008 World Snooker Championship. The historic 147 came at the Crucible just one frame after Ebdon had narrowly missed a maximum of his own. Carter went on to defeat Ebdon 13–9. It was also the first time two official 147 breaks had been made at the same World Championship.
